I had to take a break from Facebook. I couldn't take it any more. I tried and tried to be positive during this pandemic, but it felt like too often people just took a shit on my posts. It's exhausting, and these times are hard, so why make them harder? I've been thinking for the last several weeks that I just need to leave ToxicBook and blog instead, so here I am.
I don't know if people are unaware, don't think about it, or simply don't care how their words can impact someone. Now, that goes both ways. Just as a kind word can brighten your day, a disparaging word can help it take a swift nosedive.
So I urge all of you. When you see someone trying to find the good in these challenging times, don't put them down and give the dark side of the story. Encourage them—lift them up. They could be on the brink of losing what little faith they have left. Your dark words could take them over the edge, or keep the smile they're struggling to find on their face.
In these difficult times, please, please, please let's support each other, not shut them out. We need our support systems now more than ever. Be the reason someone makes it through another day—not the reason they finally lost the battle in their mind.
